A biopsy is a medical procedure where a small sample of tissue is taken from the body for examination. In gynecology, it’s often used to test for abnormal or cancerous cells in areas like the cervix, uterus, or ovaries. The sample is then analyzed under a microscope to provide a precise diagnosis.

Birth control includes a variety of methods to prevent pregnancy, ranging from hormonal pills, patches, and injections to IUDs and surgical sterilization. These methods work by altering hormone levels, preventing ovulation, or creating barriers to fertilization. Many forms of birth control also offer benefits like regulating menstrual cycles or managing acne.

A C-section is a surgical procedure used to deliver a baby through incisions in the abdomen and uterus. It’s typically performed when a vaginal birth poses risks to the mother or baby. The procedure may be planned or done in response to unexpected complications during labor.

Menstrual cramps are throbbing or aching pains in the lower abdomen that occur just before and during a menstrual period. They result from uterine contractions that help shed the uterine lining. While common, severe cramps may indicate underlying conditions like endometriosis or fibroids.

Robotic Hysterectomy is a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure that uses robotic technology to enhance the Surgeon’s skills during complex procedures using high-def 3D magnification, robotic technology and use of miniature instruments. The robot is remotely guided by the surgeon, who sits at a console close to the patient, directing the movements and precision of three robot arms.

The main benefit of robotic surgery is reducing the risk of complications during and after surgery.

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure where small incisions and a camera are used to operate inside the abdomen. It is commonly used in gynecology for procedures like removing ovarian cysts, treating endometriosis, or performing hysterectomies. Recovery time is generally quicker than with traditional open surgery.

A Pap smear is a screening test that collects cells from the cervix to check for precancerous or cancerous changes. It’s an essential part of regular gynecological care, helping to detect cervical cancer early. Pap smears are typically recommended every 3-5 years for most women.

Prenatal care includes regular medical check-ups, screenings, and guidance during pregnancy to ensure both maternal and fetal health. Care begins early in pregnancy and involves monitoring growth, conducting ultrasounds, and managing potential complications. Regular prenatal visits help promote a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

STD testing screens for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, and herpes. Testing may involve blood, urine, or swab samples, depending on the infection. Regular testing is key for early detection and treatment to prevent complications and transmission.

A UTI is an infection in any part of the urinary system, commonly the bladder or urethra. Symptoms often include a burning sensation during urination, frequent urge to urinate, and cloudy or strong-smelling urine. UTIs are typically treated with antibiotics and can be prevented with proper hygiene.

An ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique using sound waves to visualize organs and tissues inside the body. In gynecology, it’s often used to monitor pregnancy, assess ovarian and uterine health, or diagnose conditions like fibroids. It provides real-time images and is commonly performed in an office setting.
